Planning of a new litter in the spring of 2013

In the spring of 2013 Gemma will once more be mated with wold champignon Baikal Onix Gloria. I had always planned that I would try to get one more litter by Gemma and Baikal, as it was simply a gorgeous litter A. I had however not imagine it should be so soon as the litter B, but I did not dare to wait longer as Baikal will soon be retired.

Gemma - BIV and nomBIS

On the 30th of April I travel with Gemma and Althea to Fredericia to attended the JYRAK (FIFe) show. It was Althea’s first show and she competed in class 12, while this was Gemma’s second show and she competed in class 9. It was Annette Kempf, DK who was judging them both.

Althea did so fine even thought she was a bit scared by all the noise around her. She received her Ex1 and got a very promising evaluation.

Gemma also did fine, all though she was still a bit shy and did not show off so much self-confidence. She received her second CAC - and beside that got a BIV (Best In Variety). She has grown into a very fine lady and I am so pleased with her.

The judge also nominated her to BIS (Best In Show). I was so proud….

Gemma did not get the BIS but it was a very good practice and perhaps the next time. At the moment I am just so proud that she got that far in the show.

Almost four weeks old - and just gorgeous!!

The kittens are now almost 4 weeks old and they are growing sweeter by the moment. They are beginning to explore the world and training to be a good cat. See the new pictures of the kittens at the ”Available kittens” page.

Five healthy kittens growing fast

Gemma’s five kittens are now a little over 2 weeks old and their eyes have now open. They are growing fast and have more than tipple their weight. Gemma is looking after them well and she is constantly watching over them. If she feels the place of the kittens are too light or too noisy she will try to move the kittens to a better place. There are three boys; Alfric (ny22), Albus (ny 22) and Almo (n24) and two girls; Althea (ny22) and Aldora (ny22). Alfric and Althea have the best golden colors, but there is golden in all of them except for Almo.

Very sad news

Today the 14th of december we sadly lost one of Gemma’s kittens. It was a female golden kitten with a tabby pattern and the one I had expected to keep for myself, which made it an even more sad story. Yesterday when we took pictures of the kittens and weighted them, they all looked healthy and where very lively. This morning however I noticed that one kitten did not feed and did not make an effort to feed even when the other kittens where removed. I rushed her to the veterinarian when her state deteriorated and where she was given a saline solution and breast milk substitution. She was examined but no apparent illness was found. Not long after we got home from the vet she died.

All the other kittens are feeding well and all the time. Their bellies are round and they show signs of growing well. Gemma and the other kittens were also examined by the veterinarian. Gemma produce plenty of milk and the other kittens are growing well and are bursting with health. I may never know what went wrong with the one kitten, but I am sorry for the loss of her - a very beautiful kitten I would have loved to see grow.

6 kittens born today - december 12th 2011

Today Gemma gave birth to 6 beautiful kittens. The first two kittens arrived at 5:50 am, then one more came at 6:25, 7:15, 7:40 and 8:20 am. Gemma was a very competent mother and no assistance was needed. It was her first litter but she did GREAT. At no time were we worried about the delivery of her kittens or her well-being. This will absolutely not be the last time Gemma has a littter - she is a very good mother.

She is very protective of her kittens and we have not jet been able to make a total count of females or males and color determination is also outstanding. The kittens were weight and the following weight were found; 93, 79, 94, 103, 92 and 80 grams, respectively. We are now giving her some time alone with her kittens. Further information will come at a later time.

We did however manage to get the following pictures and video of the kittens.

Almost time - the 63th day has arrived

Gemma is now 63 days into her pregnancy - but there is still no signs of the delivery of the kittens. She has now gained approximately 1200 grams. She moves around with difficulties, but she does not seem to be aware of her extra weight as she still want to jump to high places (no longer a pretty sight) and play with her toys. We are very curious to see how many kittens there are and we hope the birth will proceed fine.

Gemma has now gained 600 grams and there are still approximately 19 days left - It will be exciting to see how many kittens there are. She is having trouble with jumping to high places and the elegance in her moves have disappeared.

Gemma is home again

Saturday the 16th of October my husband and I once more began our journey to Ibbenbüren, Germany. We stayed at a hotel in Melle very close to Ibbenbüren and Sunday late in the morning we drove to Gaby’s. We were very glad finally to be able to pick up Gemma, as we have missed her immensely.
Gaby had taken very good care of Gemma and she seemed to be enjoying the company of Baikal even though she no longer was in heat. The mating between them had proceeded fine and now we hope that Gemma will get the most beautiful golden kittens around the middle of December 2011.

Gaby is a very experienced breeder and she had a lot of good advice and a bundle of knowledge concerning breeding and the golden color in siberians. I have learned so much in the two visits to Gaby and for this I am grateful. Gaby had a very beautiful young boy (approximately 7 months), Mischa that was simply gorgeous - so affectionally and social. I think my husband was a little afraid that the transporting cage was too big - as Mischa was looking for a home….

Around 12 o’clock we said goodbye to Gaby and started the long trip towards little Denmark.

It was good to be home with Gemma. We cannot help looking at her and think … is she pregnant? How many kittens are there going to be? The house will be full of life around christmas😄.

Gemma is visiting Baikal

Gemma had started her heat saturday morning the 8th of october and we quickly made the arrangement for Gemma to visit Baikal during the following day. We started our journey to Ibbenbüren, Germany sunday morning at 7 o’clock. We made few stops but the traffic was heavy so we did not arrive until 15.30 at Gaby’s.

Gemma was very timed following the long journey in the car and so she was not in the best of moods. Baikal did however find her interesting and was very patiently with her. He was the true gentleman as he in the beginning left her alone but all the time stayed close by. Gradually, Gemma started to relax and show some interest in Baikal. By the end of the day they had started to show real interest in each other. The mating has had a very promising start and we hope to be able to pick Gemma up on the following sunday.

It was great to finally meet Gaby after all the mail corespondency that we have had in order to arrange the mating of Gemma. Gaby has a lot of experience with breeding golden kitten, and have at the moment the most gorgeous three golden kittens from Bailkal. Among many thing we talked a lot of the golden color and how to judge the very young kittens. I learned a lot from Gaby about breeding, the golden color and what to be aware of when the kittens come.

I know Gemma is in good hands with Gaby. The family and I do however already miss her and finds it odd that she does not come running when entering the house or keeps us company during the daily routines.

Show at Viby Sj. - Denmark

Gemma was on her first show the 25th of September 2011. It was a great day and Gemma did well.

We started with a judgement of Gemma’s color as there was some doubt whether or not there was white in her fur. She was judged by Raymond A. Sætre (Norway). I put her on the table and gave him the note with her EMS code and he replied ‘I absolutely agree with you that she is golden’ before I could say anything. I was so surprised that I forgot all about her potential white spot. He then carried on telling me and a fellow judge why she was golden and how to see it. He thought Gemma was a very excellent cat and had the typical siberian standard. He had just been judge on the Siberian Special Show in Sundsvall, Norge and had also seen a Siberian there with very similar coloring and pattern. I finely remember the white in her and asked him if this was a white spot. To this he answered ‘definitely not’ as this only was a part of the agouti band, which starts at her cheeks and expand to her chest and there is no well-defined spot area and the white has a dark base. So to sum it all up Gemma is now ny24 and her pedigree will be updated as soon as possible.

Gemma was judged by Martti Peltronen from Sweden. He had very fine words to give her. Almost everything was excellent - and he had no problem with given her the CAC, but she did not get a NOM as he thought she still looked too much like a very young cat/kitten – he thought that in a year she would be better.
She was a bit timed and shy (tugged her tail towards her) but at no time shown any aggression – hopefully she will learn to accept the show more. This first time had been a bit stressing and there had been a lot of new sounds and noises to take in. She is not used to other cats and that shows a bit as she was not her confident self as she is at home.
At the moment we do not have any plans for another show as Gemma is about to be mated to Baikal Onix Gloria at the end of october 2011.

We do expect the kittens to be mostly golden….. so if you are interested in a golden kitten - see under ’How to Adopt’

Male Siberian ny22 found for mating with Gemma

After a long search for a suitable male for mating with Gemma I have finally found him.
Gemma is going to Germany at the end of October and will be mated with World Champion Baikal Onix Gloria from cattery Spirit of New Heaven’s.
I am very excited with the mating as it is Gemmas first litter.

Visit to the Vet

I took Gemma to the veterinary as she was in heat constantly.
She got pills to stop the heat and while she was there a secondary rabies vaccination. The blood group was also tested and as no surprise the blood group was A.

Transfer document

Unfortunately I did not get a transfer document for Gemma when picking her up.
Patrycja has applied the polish Fife for the transfer document but it takes time.... I do not a such mind the waiting time, it is just that I can not put Gemma on a show before her pedigree is in place. I am so looking forward to seeing how she performs at a show - will the judges like her and what do they see as her flaws?

Gemma settles in

Gemma has now been with us for a months. She has settle in very nice and is part of the family.
It still amazes me how socialized she is and how well balanced. We have a toddler at 3 years of age and he does not take any precaution when playing with Gemma - He strokes towards her fur and jumps up and down close by her. When Gemma no longer wants to play she simply walks away and leaves him alone - she is a very patience cat.

Home with Gemma Amavi*PL

We were very unfortunately as we had to drive home from Wroclaw in a snowstorm. This made the trip a lot longer than first calculated. We ended up spending 24 hours on getting home.
When we got home Gemma used the first couple of hours to check the house and settle in fine. She was a very socialized and affectionally kitten. We was so pleased. It was however some very nerving first days as we still did not know if my husband would react to Gemma or not - I must have ask him a thousand times if he felt anything. I had made arrangement of Gemma staying permanent with my parents in case my husband showed any allergy symptoms. I would still have taken Gemma to shows but I would properly only have been able to have one litter from her. It would not have been the same but I thought it was worth the chance. My parent would have loved to have Gemma - and I would not be surprised if one of her future kittens will go to them. It was fortunately not necessary - My husband has shown no allergy symptoms towards Gemma at all.

Picking up Gemma Amavi*PL

My husband and I planed to pick up Gemma at Patrycja’s the 28th of November 2010 in Wroclaw. We first drove to Berlin where we stayed a day and experience the city. Then we drove to Wroclaw where we stayed at a hotel outside the city and early the following morning we went to Patrycja’s. It was a very big moment finally to be able to see Gemma and pet her. She was simple gorgeous......Another thing that both my husband and I appreciated very much was to meet Patrycja. We had corresponded frequently but it was very nice to meet her in person. We only stayed for a short while but it is a moment we remember with great pleasure and only adds another side to starting my cattery. It has been an experience.

Choosing a SIB kitten

I found a very promising kitten, Gayatri with Patrycja Kubiak - Amavi*PL.
Patrycja was not sure of whether or not she would be of show quality, but she had another kitten, Gemma that was very promising. Patrycja took some very nice pictures of Gemma and within a very short time both my husband and I was completely in love with her. I then had regular contact with Patrycja and she kept me informed of Gemma’s development.

Enquiries at different catteries

I searched the internet for SIB breeders in scandinavia. I first had contact with Eva Gunnarson - Nikopeja’s Siberian Cats, but she did not have any kittens at the moment. She was however very helpful and offered to test one of the kittens in the next litter by the method Tom Lundberg had developed. I was however getting very impatient and would very much like to have a SIB kitten as soon as possible. I had already used 4 months on looking. Furthermore I had decided that I would try to find a SIB kitten with the color patterns of n(y)22, n(y)23, n(y)24 and Eva mostly had kittens with solid colors. I then had contact with Kristin Bolme - (N)Siberikos, that had cats with the color patterns I was looking for. She did however not plan a litter until the start or mid of 2011.

Looking for a SIB kitten

I used most of the spring and summer of 2010 to look for the right SIB kitten.
I wanted to have a siberian cat that I could use for both show and breeding as I could not expect to have more than one and in time perhaps two Siberian Cats due to my husband’s allergy. I had a lot of e-mail correspondence with Tom Lundberg (Lundberg Siberians) with regards to a kitten with a tested allergy level. Denmark does however have some very difficult importing rules and large taxes for importing cats from the US - besides the fact that Tom had a very long waiting list for a low level Fel d1 SIB kitten. I gave up and began to look closer to home.

First interest in the SIB race

I first started to look for a SIB kitten after a friend told me that the Siberian Cat was a hypoallergenic cat race.
I have always wanted to have a small cattery but my husband was allergic to cats. We had however had my old female house cat living with us for two years without my husband experience any symptoms of his cat allergy. This gave me hope of perhaps one day to have my wish of a cattery fulfilled. I searched the internet for further information on the Siberian Cat race and its hypoallergenic capacity.
